Animal raising

Our Saname P360 Collagen Peptides are sourced from healthy, well-treated cattle. We have worked with the manufacturer's of our Collagen Peptides to bring you the highest quality hydrolysed collagen.

Where is the world beef cattle are raised & produced?

Nearly 50% of the world's beef is actually raised and produced in the Americas and the majority of it is considered Grain-Fed Beef. World Beef Production split is roughly:

  • 26.0%: USA, Mexico, Canada & Other parts of North America
  • 23.5%: Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Paraguay, Uruguay & other parts of South America
  • 13.0%: European Union
  • 11.5%: China
  • 14.0%: India & Middle East
  • 8.00%: Other Regions of the World
  • 4.50%: Australia & New Zealand

Australia and New Zealand account for only 4.5% of the total World Beef Production and 95% of our Beef is considered Grass-Fed. (In Australian standards, that means that if the cattle have been grain-finished for less than 60 days in the feedlot to still be classed as "Grass-Fed").

Note - There is also a difference between Pasture-Raised & Pasture-Fed (Pasture Fed has the PCAS requirement of no-grain ever and is stricter than Grass-Fed or Pasture-Raised claims).

Collagen Manufacturers are only legally obliged to trace all raw materials one step back in the supply chain (slaughterhouses and or tanneries). So more often than not they do not have information on how the animals were fed. How they were fed or finished doesn't alter or change the nutritional quality of the hydrolysed collagen, it's the size and structure of the actual hydrolysed collagen peptides determines the specific functionality of the individual collagen amino acids.

Country of origin labelling

As Consumers, we understand that you may be influenced by a number of factors when buying goods, including claims about where a product was grown, produced or made, so we would like help shed some light on this for you as it can be confusing. There have been some recent changes in the industry, in 2017 there was an amendment to the definition of 'Substantial Transformation'.

Processes that only change the form or appearance of imported ingredients or components no longer qualify as a 'Substantial Transformation'. At present, there is currently no collagen primarily manufactured in Australia, it is all made from 100% imported ingredients. 'Blending' & 'Packing' collagen is not considered 'Substantially Transforming' a product as that part of the processing hasn't resulted in an end product that is fundamentally different from the imported ingredients or components - either in identity, nature or essential character. Combing butter, sugar, flour & egg or baking a cake for sale is considered a 'Substantial Transformation'. Blending collagen and adding a couple of pinches of salt, minerals or other ingredients or fillers & then packing it doesn't qualify as 'Substantially Transforming' a product anymore.

We have clearly stated on our packaging that our collagen is 'Packed in Australia from Imported Ingredients'. Whilst we would love to claim that it is Made with Love in Australia (as we have formulated the unique blend of differently structured collagen peptides that make up our amazing P360 Hydrolysed Collagen - blending and packing it here), it is still considered legally 'Manufactured' in Brazil & Germany because it still remains the fundamentally imported ingredient - hydrolysed collagen.

Saname is proudly Australian owned and operated and all of our products are blended & packed here in Australia. Our Collagen Peptides are manufactured in Germany & Brazil from healthy, well treated cattle. We have gone a step further because we understand that our customers want to know where the cattle were sourced and raised. Saname is happy to report that our manufacturers source healthy bovine hides from: Germany, Brazil, USA, Canada, Morocco, Norway, Russia, South Korea, UK & the European Union Countries. (The EU countries are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain & Sweden).

Sustainability

We are proud of the manufacturer of our P360 Collagen, consistently seeking innovative solutions and investing in state-of-the-art facilities to improve processes, and reduce the impact of business operations on the environment. We care about our people, animals, plants, the planet and we are proud that our manufacturer shares in these beliefs & ideals too.

Carbon footprint of collagen peptides

Our manufacturer is proud to participate in assessing the carbon footprint of collagen peptides during the manufacture process. Headed by an independent neutral expert company, a methodology has been developed for calculating the carbon footprint and all European plants have been evaluated on this basis. The results show that between 2006 and 2010, the carbon footprint, excluding the supply chain of raw materials, has been continuously reduced: the total reduction being 4.3%. We see this as confirming our efforts to continuously improve performance in this important area. Within the entire value chain of the meat processing industry, the production of gelatine and collagen peptides creates value for the community at large by converting by-products into beneficial protein products, fats and minerals, thus reducing environmental impact and enhancing the social and economic aspects of the meat industry. For that reason, collagen can be considered a product with an overall positive environmental influence.
